Francis married Catherine Heslop shortly after this census, in the
March quarter of 1894 (Leyburn RD, 9d 881), Catherine being the
daughter of William and Mary from Leyburn.
Francis and Catherine had a daughter, Mary Kathleen, and judging by
their headstone, complications from childbirth must have taken mother
and daughter. From Wensley churchyard:
In loving memory of Catherine dearly beloved wife of Francis Whitelock of
Gale Bank who died 18 April 1899 aged 32. Also of Mary Kathleen daughter of
the above who died 18 April 1899 aged 6 days.
