Margaret Whitelock was born Margaret Heslop, baptized in Redmire 22 July 1841, son of John Heslop and Hannah, nee Waller.

1891 Census

No Whitelocks appear in 1881, but Margaret and son Francis reappear on the Redmire census in 1891:

Francis married Catherine Heslop shortly after this census, in the March quarter of 1894 (Leyburn RD, 9d 881), Catherine being the daughter of William and Mary from Leyburn.

Francis and Catherine had a daughter, Mary Kathleen, and judging by their headstone, complications from childbirth must have taken mother and daughter. From Wensley churchyard:

In loving memory of Catherine dearly beloved wife of Francis Whitelock of Gale Bank who died 18 April 1899 aged 32. Also of Mary Kathleen daughter of the above who died 18 April 1899 aged 6 days.
