Will of William Calvert, 1765

In the name of God, Amen, I William Calvert of Redmire, in the Parish
of Wensley and County of York, Farmer, being of sound and perfect mind
and memory, do make this my last will and testament in the manner
following (that is to say) I give and bequeath all the Free Farm rents
which are my right and property, wheresoever due, to my son John xmx
after he shall shall arrive at the age of twenty and one years, who
shall pay my wife Elizabeth during the term of her natural life four
pounds a year of lawful money of Great Britain, to be raised or levied
out of the said free farm rents.

I also give and bequeath unto my eldest daughter Grace, the sum of
fifty pounds, to be paid to her when she shall arrive at the age of
twenty and one years [crossed out - when she shall arrive at the ] by

i also give and bequeath unto my daughters Dorothy and Betty the sum of
sixty pounds each, to be paid by my executrix hereafter named when they
or either of them shall survive until the age of twenty and one years.

The free farm rents aforesaid, till my son shall be twenty one years of
age, together with the rest and residue of my goods and chattels and
personal estate (not here otherwise disposed of) and all my household
goods and household furniture [Between lines of original text,

shall pay one hundred pounds of the sums above mentioned unto my
daughters Dorothy and Elizabeth when they shall arrive at the age above
mentioned out of the free rents] I give and bequeath to my wife
Elizabeth for the support of herself and children, and moreover I
appoint and constitute my said wife sole and only executrix of this my
last will and testament.

I also constitute and appoint William Walker of Thornbrough in the the
Parish of Eanfield and Christopher Other junior of Redmire and the
County aforesaid joint trustees for my said children, with full power
and authority to use this my said last will and testament executed. In
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of
August and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty
five.

[Nine Pence Stamp duty] Richmond, 19th April 1766 Elizabeth Calvert, widow and sole executrix named in the last will and testament of William Calvert late of Redmire in the parish of Wensley in the Archdeaconry of Richmond, farmer deceased, appeared personally and was sworn duely and faithfully to execute this cause. A reservation and exception being made, touching the validity of the movial interliniations and obliterations appearing upon the said will. Before me, P Blackburne, Surrogate.
KNOW ALL MEN, by these presents that we William Walker of Thornbrough in the parish of Tanfield in the County of York, yeoman, and Christopher Other of Redmire in the parish of Redmire in the aforesaid County, yeoman, are bound and firmly obliged to the Right Reverend Father in God Edmund, Lord Bishop of Chester, in the sum of two hundred pounds of good and lawfull money of Great Britain, to be paid to the said comissary or his true and lawfull attorney, executors, administrators or assigns, to whcih payment well and truly to be made, we bind us and each of us jointly and severally for and in the whole our and each of our [crossed out - of our] heirs, executors and administrators, and every of them firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals. Dated the 19th day of the month of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty six. THE condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden William Walker and William [sic] Other, trustees named in the last will and testament of William Calvert late of Redmire in the parish of Wensley aforesaid, their executors or administrators and every or any of them do well and faithfully educate and bring up Grace, Dorothy, Elizabeth and John Calvert, the natural and lawful children of the aforesaid William Calvert deceased, with sufficient of meat, drink,cloathes and all other neccessities agreeable to their condition or estate during their minority. And make a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits belonging to the said children and exhibit the same into the registry of the Consistory Court of Richmond [crossed out - Court at YORK] at or before the eighteenth day of October next ensuing the date hereof and also make or cause to be made a true and just account of the same when they shall be thereunto lawfully called. And do also well and truly content, satisfy and pay or cause to be well and truly contented satisfied and paid unto the said Grace, Dorothy, Elizabeth and John Calvert, executors administrators and assigns all such filial or child's part or portion, gifts, legacies and other personal estate and all other rights, dues and demands due or owing to them and every of them by the death, last will and testament of the said William Calvert, their father deceased, or otherwise when they shall accomplish the age of twenty and one years, be married, or otherwise lawfully demand the same. And moreover, if need require, enter into better bond with more sufficient sureties for performance of the premises as the Judge of the said Court for the time being shall think requisite and needful. And lastle do save, defend and keep harmless the above named commissary and all his officers and ministers against all persons by reason of the premises. Then this present obligation to be void and of none effect or else to remain in full force and virtue.
