This is the last Will and Testament of me John Stringer Calvert of Redmire in the parish of Wensley in the County of York, Yeoman.

I give and devise all that messuage or dwellinghouse situate at Redmire aforesaid in which I now reside together with the small garden on the South thereof now in my possession with the rights and appurtenances unto and to the use of my granddaughter Mary Rider who now resides with me her heirs and assigns for ever, free and discharged from all principal sum or sums of money which shall be owing by me on mortgage or otherwise to any person or persons whomever at my decease and which might otherwise affect the same.

I give and devise all that the messuage or dwellinghouse heretofore in my possession with the Garth Garden outbuildings and appurtenances thereunto belonging my close of land called Laire Close containing about four acres and now or lately occupied by Thomas Hunter, my close of land called Gib Hole containing about one acre and now or lately occupied by William Farrow, my close of land called Kitlat otherwise Kirkland containing about one acre now or lately occupied by John Horner, the high part of my Redmire Pasture Allotment with the plantation now or lately in the occupation of Thomas Hunter, William Farrow, Ralph Rider and John Horner and containing about three acres, my close of land called Scarlett containing about three acres and now or lately in the occupation of the ones last named four persons, and the high part of my Moor Allotment now or lately in my posession and containing about five acres All of which said messuage or dwellinghouse, closes of land and allotments are situate at and within the township of Redmire aforesaid unto and to the use of my son James Stringer Calvert his heirs and assigns for ever charged and chargeable nevertheless with the payment of the sum of two hundred pounds sterling to my daughter Elizabeth Rider to whom I give and bequeath the same sum accordingly and direct that the same shall be paid at the expiration of twelve calendar months next after my decease and also charged and chargeable with the payment of one moiety or equal half part of all principal sum or sums of money which shall be owing by me to any person or persons whomever or mortgages or otherwise at my decease, with one moiety or equal half part of the interest then due thereon and in exoneration and discharge of all other my property and effects whatsoever.

I give and devise all that the messuage or dwellinghouse Garth Garden outbuildings and appurtenances thereunto belonging now or lately in the occupation of Edmund Peacock, that portion of my Garth or close of land called Tommy Nicholson's Garth as now fenced in my close of land called Laith Close containing about two acres now or lately in occupied by the said Ralph Rider, my close of land called Sunmire containing about one acre now or lately occupied by the said John Horner, my close of land called Broad Garth containing about two acres now or lately in my possession, the lower part of my Redmire Pasture Allotment now or lately in the occupation of the said Thomas Hunter, William Farrow, Ralph Rider and John Horner and containing about four acres and the lower part of my Moor Allotment now or lately in my possession and containing about five acres All which said last mentioned messuage or dwellinghouse, closes of land, Garths, Allotments and hereditaments are situate at and within the township of Redmire aforesaid unto and to the use of my son John Stringer Calvert his heirs and assigns for ever charged and chargeable nevertheless with the payment of the sum of two hundred pounds sterling to my daughter Maria Park to whom I give and bequeath the same accordingly and I direct that the same shall be paid at the expiration of twelve calendar months next after my decease and also charged and chargeable with the payment of one moiety or equal half part of all principal sum or sums of money which shall be owing by me to any person or persons whomever or mortgages or otherwise at my decease, with one moiety or equal half part of the interest then due thereon and in exoneration and discharge of all other my property and effects whatsoever.

And I direct that my said son James Stringer Calvert his heirs and assigns shall at all times of the year and for all purposes have a carriage road through along and over the lower part of my Redmire Pasture Allotment so as aforesaid by me devised to my said son John Stringer Calvert his heirs and assigns into the high part of my Redmire Pasture Allotment so as aforesaid by me devised to my son James Stringer Calver his heirs and assigns and from whence back again. And I give the same to him accordingly.

And I direct that my said son John Stringer Calvert his heirs and assigns shall at all times of the year and for all purposes have a carriage road through along and over the high part of my Moor Allotment so as aforesaid by me devised to my said son James Stringer Calvert his heirs and assigns into the lower part of my said Moor Allotment so as aforesaid by me devised to my son John Stringer Calver his heirs and assigns and from whence back again. And I give and devise the same to him accordingly.

I give and bequeath all and singular my household furniture and other my household effects and all other my personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said sons and daughters James Stringer Calvert, John Stringer Calvert, Elizabeth Rider and Maria Park absolutely in equal shares as tenants in common subject to the payment of my personal expenses and the costs and charges of proving this my Will and subject as aforesaid I devise all the residue of any real estate to which I may be entitled at the time of my decease unto and to the use of the said James Stringer Calvert, John Stringer Calvert, Elizabeth Rider and Maria Park their heirs and assigns as tenants in common.

I appoint the said James Stringer Calvert and John Stringer Calvert to be executors of this my last will. And I revoke all other wills by me at any time heretofore made.

In witness whereof I have to this my last will and Testament consisting of three sheets of paper set my hand (to wit) my hand to the bottom of each of the preceeding sheets and my hand to this third and last sheet this twenty sixth day of August one thousand eight hundred and twenty.

Proved at York the ninth day of August 1878 by the oaths of James Stringer Calvert and John Stringer Calvert the sons the executors to whom administration was granted. The testator John Stringer Calvert was late of Redmire in the parish of Wensley in the county of York, yeoman, and died on the fourteenth day of July 1878, at Redmire aforesaid.
