At Haregill in 1841, lived farmer James Espiner and wife, with young John Hunter in service:

1851 Census

By 1851, two Hunter families had moved to the village. The first was headed by Henry, bringing his siblings from Westmorland:

It is uncertain who this family are. There is one relevant baptism, that of Thomas Hunter, baptized 8 September 1814 at Ravenstonedale, Westmorland, the son of James Hunter and Mary Whitehead.

The second family is more local, Thomas having moved to Redmire from Wensley:

In June 1845 (banns read at Redmire), Thomas married Catherine Glew. Catherine was the daughter of George Glew and Elizabeth Spence of Wensley, and was baptized there 6 November 1825.

Frederick is probably the child baptized 17 June 1874 to Mary Ann Hird, illegitimate. Mary Ann had previously accused Thomas Hunter, son of Catherine, of being the father of Thomas Arthur Hird. It is likely Thomas is the father of Frederick as well.

This is the last time we see Catherine Hunter on the census, as she died 18 February 1900, aged 74, and was buried 21 February 1900. Her tombstone reads:

In sacred repose rest the mortal remains of Thomas Hunter of Redmire who died 12 September 1867 aged 43 years. Also Catherine his wife who died 18 February 1900 aged 74 years.
