Metcalfe Spensley was the son of Simon Spensley and Ann, nee Metcalfe.
On 19 February 1877, he married Judith Horn, the daughter of Jeremiah
Horn and Ann, nee Waller. Judith was born 9 July 1848, and baptized
in Castle Bolton 24 September 1848. They had one child, John Metcalfe
Spensley, born 18 October 1877 in Harmby, and seen with his parents
there in 1881.

Metcalfe's nephew, Ernest is working on their farm in 1901. Ernest
was actually Albert Ernest Spensley, born 28 May 1881 at West Derby,
Liverpool, son of Christopher Spensley and Sarah, nee Collier.
According to his son, Albert never knew exactly how old he was and the
wrong age appears on census returns and his tombstone. He married
Annie Preston on 13 May 1903 at St. Mary's, Arkengarthdale. They are
buried in Redmire:
In loving memory of Albert Ernest Spensley of Castle Bolton who
died 25 October 1943 aged 63 years. Also his wife Annie Spensley
who died 19 October 1969 aged 88 years.
